The novel seems to be taking a turn towards a closer relationship between the professor and student. He’s nervous as they walk to his office about someone seeing them and thinking they’re holding hands. Also he doesn’t want to see Magda when he is with her, even though Magda is his best friend. He also allows Angela to criticize Magda as well. Later in the office when Swenson points out a mistake, Angela gets closer to Swenson, almost having their foreheads touch.
